Austin's central neighborhoods like Hyde Park and Travis Heights are built on pre-war bungalows with narrow, deep lots and short driveways that were poured thin over compacted caliche decades ago, long before modern base standards. Those driveways are cracking, settling, and heaving now, and they need a proper base and overlay to hold up.
Austin Asphalt Paving has been serving Austin and the surrounding areas since 2012. We work on residential driveways, parking lots, private roads, and the aprons where your drive meets the street. Our team is fully insured, we show up in person to measure and assess the job, and we give you a written estimate with tonnage and thickness specs so you know exactly what you're getting.
Asphalt Paving in Austin (78703)
Austin's driveway problems are rooted in soil and climate. In the central neighborhoods, thin asphalt over caliche fails because the base was never built to handle the weight and the seasonal movement. In the post-war ranch ring around Northwest Hills and Allandale, wider driveways are aging into their first real resurfacing. But the biggest challenge runs across the whole area: expansive clay. When the Blackland Prairie clay soaks up water in a wet season and then dries out weeks later, it swells and shrinks, cracking asphalt and breaking edges. A driveway without a compacted base rides that movement every year. Add the Hill Country's high-intensity storms, and you get runoff cutting into ungraded surfaces and washing out the shoulders.
We've been paving in Austin since 2012. We know which driveways need a full replacement with a proper base, which ones can be resurfaced over an existing slab, and which ones just need a patch to hold another season. We bring a roller and a paver that fit tight lots, we coordinate with HOAs when the rules require it, and we work with the local permitting process for aprons and curb cuts.

How a Job Works in Austin
You call us at (737) 256-6070 or reach out online. We come to your property, measure the driveway or lot, look at the base and the grade, check the drainage, and talk through what's actually wrong and what it will cost to fix. We give you a written estimate with the square footage, the thickness, the tonnage, and the price. No surprises.
When you're ready, we schedule the work. If it's a driveway apron or a curb cut that touches the right-of-way, we help you navigate the local permitting. We mill or remove the old surface if needed, prepare and grade the base, bring in the asphalt, and lay it with a paver and a roller. In tight lots in Hyde Park or Travis Heights, we work with the space we have. If your property is in an HOA, we coordinate with the architectural review before we start.
When we're done, we clean up the site, haul away the debris, and walk through the job with you. Your driveway is ready to use right away, though the asphalt will continue to cure for the first six to twelve months, so hold off on any sealcoating until that's done.
Asphalt driveway paving in Austin typically runs from $6 per square foot for new installation, depending on the base condition, the thickness, and the site access. A resurfacing or overlay over an existing slab costs less, starting around $4 per square foot. A simple pothole or patch repair starts at $450. A full driveway replacement, with milling and a new base, runs from $7 per square foot. Parking lot work varies widely by size and condition; we provide a free commercial estimate. The real cost drivers are the square footage, whether the existing base is salvageable, how thick the new asphalt needs to be, and how easy it is to get the paver and roller onto the site.
